United States inventory of all hogs and pigs on March 1, 2023, was 72.9 million head. This was up slightly from March 1, 2022, but down 2% from Dec. 1, 2022, USDA NASS reported on Thursday.

Illinois had a clean sweep of the Top 10 list of the nation's best county soybean yields while non-Illinois counties had only three spots in the Top 20. On the opposite end of the spectrum, drought-stricken states in the Southern Plains had the nation's worst soybean yields.

Cattle futures continued to regain ground Wednesday as cash trade has not yet taken place and it appears higher cash might be in the cards. Hogs were under pressure right from the start as funds seem to be comfortable moving into the Hogs & Pigs report remaining short.
